Hi,

I am using HibernateUtil in my DAO layer which in tuen is accessed by session bean and MDB's. I wanted to isolate all calls to Hibernate (and HibernateUtil) to the DAO layer. The problem was that if a dao called another dao then session would be opened and closed once in each dao. I need support for nested getSession calls in the same thread. Hence I updated HibernateUtil to keep the count of the getSession calls in the same thread, before session is finally closed. This allows me to call getSession a number of times and close the session be assured the I get the same session back until the final close session is called.
I also implmented the same logic for begin and commit transaction.

Here is the code: Please provide feedback.

Code:
package com.panacya.pcyservice.hibernate;

import net.sf.hibernate.*;

import org.apache.commons.logging.Log;
import org.apache.commons.logging.LogFactory;

import javax.naming.Context;
import javax.naming.InitialContext;
import javax.naming.NamingException;

Do you know how a ThreadLocal variable works?

I think I know how it works, may be not from your question.
I realize that I should have named the post,

a hibernateUtil that supports nested closeSession and commitTransaction

What I am trying to do in this code is to be able to call getSession and closeSession in a nested manner and closeSession only when the last closeSession is called.

Here is the psuedo code of what I am trying to accomplish

Code:
class OneDao:

addObject1(..)
{
    session = HibernateUtil.getSession();
    HibernateUtil.beginTransaction();
     relatedData = TwoDAO.getData(...);
     session.save(data);
    HibernateUtil.commitTransaction();
    HibernateUtil.closeSession();
}

class TwoDAO:

getData(....)
{
   session = HibernateUtil.getSession();
    HibernateUtil.beginTransaction();
     data = session.find(...)
    HibernateUtil.commitTransaction();
    HibernateUtil.closeSession();
}

So by incrementing and decrementing the session and transaction get count I am trying to accomplish what an interceptor could probably have easily accomplished.
