Hibernate version: 3.1.2

Is there any way we can dynamically modify/set on runtime the second-level cache settings for class and query caches. Say during the application run I modify timeout for some query chace from 2 secs to 2 hours?

Yes but it is not portable. For example, ehcache has a standard method (static one but this is changing) to gain access to the cache provider.
